900 Arizona Kids Camp Free
Posted by Mrs. admin under: camps; fundraising .
Every year, the Sportsmen’s Fund and the readers of the Arizona Daily Star donate money to send low-income children and children with parents or guardians in the military to one of their local camps for free. This year, they have received 1,427 donations totaling $231,294 and have surpassed their goal of 720 kids by about 180. Wow!
Kids will be able to go to a Girl Scout Camp, Boy Scout Camp, YMCA Camp or to the Camp Courage burn camp. The Send a Kid to Camp Fund has been doing this for their community since 1947. Reader Advocate Debbie Kornmiller says “The Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts select and recruit recipients based on the criteria we created of financial need or military affiliation.” If you live in the Tuscon area and you think you might qualify, contact your local council or YMCA or send Debbie an email at advocate@azstarnet.com.
For those of you who love camping and would like to share that experience with those less fortunate, you can make donations online. The website lists all contributors and has tax-deduction information as well. Make sure you check out their testimonials (called “Why I Give”) if you don’t mind getting a little choked up… (sniff)
