Controversial Executive Changes Councils
Posted by admin under: camps .
Lou Whitmire at the Marion Star is letting us know that Barry Norris is moving as excutive from one council to another. Not that big a deal except for the following.
Norris has served as executive of the Heart of Ohio Boy Scout Council since January 1994. His tenure there became mired in controversy when many long-time Scout leaders in the Richland County area saw him as instrumental in the decision finalized this year to sell Camp Avery Hand in Lexington, the smaller of the two camps maintained by the council.
The Greater Cleveland Council serves 20,000 youth, according to Norris, and has an annual operating budget of $3 million.
“My role would be to oversee all scouting operations in this area and work with the thousands of volunteers in that council,” Norris said in a phone interview Friday.
If any camps get sold it would be reasonable to assume that those who promoted him may have been simultaneously promoting a certain agenda.
