Little Sioux Official Reopen Date Set

While I couldn’t find anything on the national or Mid-America Council websites, the Associated Press is reporting that the BSA has issued a press release stating that the official reopening of the Little Sioux Scout Ranch at which 4 Boy Scouts were killed by a tornado will be next Saturday, October 11.
Here is the text of the press release courtesy of WOI TV.
BLENCOE, Iowa (AP) - Four months after it was destroyed by a tornado, the Little Sioux Scout Ranch in southwest Iowa will celebrate the rebuilding of the ranger’s house and hold a camping event for scouts.
A tornado hit the ranch near Blencoe on June 11, killing four scouts and injuring 48 others.
The storm also destroyed a building many of the scouts took shelter in and the ranger’s house.
The camp remains closed while other rebuilding projects continues.
A news release from the Boy Scouts says there will be a flag raising ceremony and ribbon cutting on Oct. 11. A fall camporee also is scheduled for that weekend.
A Scouts spokeswoman Katie Kassebaum says the ranch remains closed and that the camporee is being held in an area that wasn’t damaged by the storm.
I’m glad that the camp is reopening so that new happy memories can soothe the pain of the old ones.
