Mass Jam
Posted by admin under: Outings; camps; jamboree .
Marketwatch sent out a reminder that this weekend there will be a once-every-four-years gathering of the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Boy Scouts and this time they’ll even have some units from New Hampshire, Maine, and Connecticut. The event is called Mass Jam ‘08.
The event is expected to draw 7,000 attendees from almost 400 units. This is what they call a mini-Jamboree. It’s what I call a camporee on steroids. There’s nothing mini about this event.
MassJam 2008 offers an opportunity for Scouts to have fun while participating in activity centers that emphasize traditional Scouting skills: First Aid, Archery, Air Rifles, Orienteering, Friction Bridge, Confidence Course, Pioneering, Challenge Wall, and Mountain Boarding. In their spare time, Scouts will be able to visit a midway featuring a variety of exhibits and displays by organizations such as a blacksmith, the Massachusetts Audubon Society, Federation of Fly Fishers, and the U.S. Coast Guard. A favorite spot at this Jamboree will be the area set aside for patch and souvenir trading.
They’ll even be broadcasting on 94.7 FM while the event is going on. How cool!
Eagle 94.7 will be playing a pop-rock format with Jamboree related news and weather to keep you informed throughout the day.
…
Directions and instructions will be broadcasted throughout the morning to keep all you leaders informed. Directions, traffic delays, sub camp procedures and locations, and where to report and what you need ready for check in will be broadcasted.
…
Evening Arena Shows:
Eagle 94.7 will be simulcasting the arena shows on Saturday and Sunday night.
Well, all I can say is that these boys are obviously in for a great time at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds. What a fantastic event it is sure to be.
