Mount Hope’s Dashed
Posted by admin under: camps .
The unpleasant duty of informing us of a case of vandalism against Girl Scouts goes to Doyle Murphy in the Times Herald-Record.
Vandals trashed a Girl Scout camp, causing thousands of dollars of damage, police said. Mount Hope Sgt. Bob Decker said volunteers discovered the mess when they went to inspect the grounds for an upcoming function. Windows were shattered, doors broken and phone wires cut. Water sprayed from the camp’s broken supply line. Decker said the vandals had smashed door handles with fire extinguishers, then emptied the canisters inside buildings. Whole rooms were covered in the white residue. The camp had 23 fire extinguishers, and 13 are missing. A stuffed, white-tailed deer and a stuffed bear cub are also missing. They had been donated for the girls’ nature discovery program, Decker said.
…
Decker said the vandals hit sometime between Oct. 27 and Nov. 10 and left the Girl Scouts with little option but to cancel their upcoming function.
The capacity for human beings to do something awful has always surprised me because I see so much goodness in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts around me. Here’s a great big e-hug to our sisters in the Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson council. *sigh* Time to get back to work and fix Camp Birch Ridge backup up.
