Tonqua’s Bridge is Falling Down, Falling Down, Falling Down
Posted by admin under: camps .
Hurricane Ike had a big effect for a Girl Scout troop in Edwardsville, Illinois this past weekend. The rain ran across a bridge to Camp Tonqua and washed it out. Since it was the only link out of the camp, the troop was stranded. Fortunately, volunteer firefighters brought out a truck and extended their ladder over the rushing water so that everyone could get out. Unfortunately, all of their gear and the leaders’ cars had to be left behind and they’re all wondering when they’ll be able to get their stuff back.
Girl Scout Emma Vinson told FOX 2, “It was raining so hard, for some reason the bridge just went away. So we had to climb up a ladder to go home.”
Firefighters came after a mom coming to pick up her daughters saw that the flood wasn’t just over the road, but that there was no road. So a fire fighter’s ladder became a bridge, and little girls became quite brave.
