Boy Scout Coin Designs
Posted by admin under: centennial .
ScoutingNews.org has an example of the coin designs that will be minted next year by the government to support the Boy Scouts of America. Dan also links over to the original article discussing the various designs submitted so you can see others.
The timely thing about what the article says is that the commission of fine arts has been generally disapproving of the designs submitted so far for the BSA coin. Since I was just in Washington D.C. last week with my Girl Scout troop I found out from our tour guide that the big power in Washington is the commission of fine arts. They can hold up a monument or memorial for years while they haggle the details. The new Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial is still trying to get through the committee which apparently just vetoed the last proposal.
I agree with Dan on his choice of the available obverse (front side – yeah I had to look it up) images. I differ with the committee about the reverse, though. I think scrolls are cool and I prefer the image below for the back of the coin.
