BSA Earning the Astro Badge
Posted by admin under: centennial .
Cool story just out today from the Boy Scouts of America about 4 centennial patches being placed on the Space Shuttle that launched this morning. When every gram is calculated even something as small as 4 patches is a big deal. The patches are the, A Year of Celebration, A Century of Making a Difference, patches pictured here. Who will receive these incredible mementos when they return to earth? I don’t know, but I’ve got a right arm I’m willing to trade. It’s only slightly used.
The Boy Scouts of America is using this opportunity to highlight the new merit badges that are coming out to show the BSA program is still relevant even though it remains true to its original principles.
Though firmly rooted in an unchanged set of core values, the BSA is committed to remaining current and relevant by adapting how it delivers programs and reaches its audiences. The BSA’s three new merit badges—Robotics, Inventing, and Geocaching—are indicative of how it is adjusting to prepare young people to become leaders and participating citizens in an increasingly technological world. Today, Scouts can read the Boy Scout Handbook on an iPhone, use GPS devices in addition to a map and compass, and receive BSA news via social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
…
After the patches return from space, they will be displayed as part of the 100th Anniversary exhibit at the National Scouting Museum in Irving, Texas.
Oh, well. All I have to say is there are no more fanatic patch collectors than Boy Scouts. It’s only honesty and a really good security system protecting those patches from now on, boy.
