Wow! $250,000 to girls in the San Francisco Bay Area so those who don’t normally get an opportunity to participate in Girl Scouts will be able to do so. Clap, clap, AT&T. Yes, indeed, clap, clap.
AT&T Inc. today announced a two-year, $250,000 contribution to Girl Scouts of Northern California to support the Growth, Independence, Friendship & Trust (GIFT) program for girls living in underserved, inner-city communities.
The GIFT program is designed to introduce the Girl Scouts into communities that haven’t had the exposure to scouting before, and provide girls with an educational and confidence-building experience. Since the inception of the GIFT program in 1986, the Girl Scouts have provided troop experiences for over 26,000 girls in the San Francisco Bay Area.
…
“AT&T believes it is critically important to invest in educational development programs for at-risk youth, especially in rough economic times,” said Loretta Walker, AT&T Vice President of External Affairs, Bay Area. “That’s why we’re proud to support the Girl Scouts in bringing such a valuable resource to girls in underserved communities of the San Francisco Bay Area.”
A key component of the GIFT program is the involvement of adult leaders from inner-city neighborhoods who understand the conditions in which the girls live and therefore can relate to their needs. They become instructors, mentors and role models for the girls participating in the program.
Now, let’s get ‘em out to camp!
