BB&T Sounds a Little Like AT&T

Hot on the heels of the $250,000 grant announcement from AT&T comes another $250,000 for the Girl Scouts. BB&T is financial corporation and must be bucking the trend of current economic problems if they can afford to give a quarter of a million dollars to the Girl Scouts in their area.
BB&T Corp. has presented an unrestricted gift of $250,000 to The Girl Scouts, Tarheel Triad Council, according to an announcement.
The gift was presented in honor of Betty Allison, wife of BB&T Chairman and CEO John Allison, who is a long-time Girl Scout adviser, supporter and leader, the announcement said. The donation was presented during a ceremony at Magnolia Manor, the Tarheel Triad Council’s headquarters, and was also on behalf of John Allison.
The Tarheel Triad Council will use the funds to develop an information-technology network that will enhance communications among Girl Scout groups in the western half of North Carolina and in York County in South Carolina.
The Tarheel Triad Council also announced that it plans to dedicate a 50-acre tract of council-owned land near its Colfax headquarters as a nature preserve in Betty Allison’s honor.
Sounds like the tarheels are ditching the carrier pigeons and getting on the internet. Actually, they have a pretty good looking web site. Hmm. It seems as if they have 7 different councils in North Carolina so getting them all webbed or direct connected together sounds like a good idea.
What a great couple to support Girl Scouts this way. Hey, their daughter just earned her Silver a couple months ago. Way to go Sarah! I wonder if I’ll recognize her name when I put her in my Sunday (most likely delayed) Golden Girls report sometime in the future. Thanks Allison family!
