Dove Continues To Measure Self-Esteem in Girls

Posted by admin under: Community Partners .

The Dove soap company has been working with Girl Scouts of the USA to build self-esteem in girls as we talked about in July. The company has now done an extensive research test to measure self-esteem in girls as reported in the Louisiana Weekly.

Self-esteem has become a national crisis in this country. The majority of girls (seven in 10) feel they do not measure up in some way including their looks, performance in school and relationships. Most disturbing is that girls with low self-esteem are engaging in harmful and destructive behavior that can leave a lasting imprint on their lives. These new findings come from Real Girls, Real Pressure: A National Report on the State of Self-Esteem, conducted with girls between eight and 17 and commissioned by the Dove Self-Esteem Fund. In response, Dove is launching its largest effort yet to bring self-esteem programming to girls across the country and to encourage everyone to make a difference in the lives of girls. This new initiative is part of the Dove Self-Esteem Fund goal to reach five million girls globally by 2010 with self-esteem programming.

Dove has decided to continue supporting the Uniquely Me! Girl Scout program.

This fall, the Dove Self-Esteem Fund is extending its outreach in an effort to tackle the self-esteem crisis among girls. As part of its largest efforts to date, Dove is continuing to support uniquely ME!, a long-term partnership with the Girls Scouts of the USA that helps build confidence in girls eight to 17 with after-school programs, self-esteem building events and educational resources.

The company has a download section where you can learn more about their self-esteem workshops as well as workbooks for moms and daughters to do together: http://www.dove.us/#/makeadifference/downloads.aspx/

So, tell those 7 girls you know that the other 3 are correct. They’re beautiful and great and you’ll be happy to show them this cool Uniquely Me! program…

I feel that my granddaughter needs some self-esteem. She is always apologizing and saying she is sorry for things that are going on around her without cause. She is 11yrs. old. I saw on TV that you have self-esteem workshops. How can I find out about these workshops. She is not a girl scout. She lives in Pa.
