Down and Rossi

About half an hour northeast of Sacramento, California is the town of Grass Valley. They’ll be having a special event on Saturday if you’d like to drop by.
Alexander Rossi, the Nevada City teen who won the 2008 Formula BMW Americas championship, will speak about doing one’s best at a showing of “Down and Derby,” a movie about the Boy Scouts of America’s Pinewood Derby.
The event starts at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Del Oro Theatre, 165 Mill St., Grass Valley. It’s hosted by Cub Scouts Pack 23; all scouts in uniform get in free, others get in for $1.
I mean, come on. How often do you get a race-car driving, teen-aged winner to attend your pack event? Not too often for me. It’s nice to see this young man being loyal to his local community even as he jets around the world competing in car races. I wonder what his pinewood derby car would look like?
