Girl Scouts Supports Children of Military Families
Posted by admin under: Community Partners; camps .
WPRI.com brings this story from the Associated Press- The Girl Scouts of Rhode Island are hosting the children of military personnel at Camp Hoffman so they can have a summer camp experience with other kids whose moms and dads deployed on active duty. Because the military life is a calling that does not rely on high salaries to attract the best people, families have often had to forego some of the extra experiences more common to others. The Sierra Club is sponsoring camp for these kids in a joint program with National Military Family Association’s Operation Purple Camp. The kids get to share their experience with others who understand the stress of having a parent away from home and possibly in harm’s way.
The media coverage seems to paint a grim picture, but there are also accounts of great enjoyment of camp. I hope the kids had a wonderful week.
