Light My Firefighter

When the boys are Cub Scouts almost all of them end up doing the police station tour or the fire station tour or both. They like being up close to the tools of the trade and sometimes holding the handcuffs or wearing a fire fighter’s helmet. When the boys bridge up to Boy Scouts they usually leave all that stuff behind. Rob Parsons at the Willows Journal has found an exception to that rule. A really fun one.
The scouts arrived Friday evening and spent the weekend participating in the firehouse’s first junior fire academy ever.
…
The scouts held a rigorous schedule of fire safety instruction, rappelling down walls and other basic duties.
On Sunday, the boys prepared a pancake and sausage breakfast for the firemen and spent the rest of the morning helping to tear apart a car.
The firefighters showed the boys the tools used to extract crash victims from their vehicles. The kids took turns smashing out car windows and helped remove the vehicle’s roof.
“That was totally awesome,” said 12-year-old Ryan Weaver.
Who wouldn’t think that was totally awesome? I wanna go! I wanna go! I’m sure the Willows firehouse has lit the fire of inspiration in some of the boys who attended. I didn’t even go and I’m inspired.
