New Large Oregon Scout Camp in 2009

The bequest of Oregon state resident Randall Martin of his property that is over 3,000 acres will become a camp for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. The transfer of the property will be finalized early 2009. This won’t be the new Jamboree home, however, according to Sheila Hagar of the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin.
The land’s elevations range from 2,200 to 3,400 feet — not flat enough for mass camping.
However, it will be ideal for other scouting activities, he said from his Tri-Cities office. The site, about a mile south of Cabbage Hill, is close to most of the Blue Mountain Council’s population centers that are spread over four Washington and eight Oregon counties.
The Boy Scouts of America receives bequests every year, over $10,000,000 worth in 2007, but this is especially noteworthy because it will be directly used as a camp to benefit Scouts across the country who end up going there. Thanks, Mr. Martin.
