Sons of the American Revolution Scholarship

The Texas Tyler Morning Telegraph reportsthat the Sons of the American Revolution, a non-profit group of direct descendants of those who fought in the American Revolution, have established the deadline for their annual Eagle Scout Scholarship essay contest. The deadline is December 15th. The essay period runs from January 1st through December 15th with winners announced in the spring following the year the essay was submitted. Eagle Scouts who are under the age of 19 can apply.
Looking at the Sons of the American Revolution web site I saw the required documents to be submitted with the essay. One of them is an ancestor chart going back 4 generations. That struck me as a little odd and I wondered if there was some sort of family residency requirement for a period of four generations. I’ve written to the organization for further explanation. However, nothing on their site says that the family must have been in America for four generations so I expect that answer to come back negative.
This scholarship seems unique in that the Eagle Scout can be 18 years old and apply. He doesn’t have to be 17 or younger. Consider it an extra year’s chance to get money for college. Quick! You have until December 15th.
