A Different Autistic Girl Scout

Since some in the media were so quick to jump all over the story of Magi I hope they’ll be equally as public with the following story from Joe Lambe at the Kansas City Star.
For months, Molly Bergman, 18, collected aluminum cans worth 5 cents a pound — so many that she made $95.
Then she spent it on animal collars and tags.
On Thursday, she and her mother delivered the collars and tags to the Olathe Animal Shelter. Molly, who is autistic, loves animals, and the can effort was part of a Girl Scout project.
She smiled as a worker looked through the basket of collars and tags. They will go on animals that are being adopted, said animal-control officer Carol Falkner. Almost all the pets that come to the shelter with collars get back to owners, she said, and pets that leave there with new owners sometimes get lost and returned to the shelter.
“It’s like a free ticket home,” she said of a collar.
You should go over to the link and see the cute picture of her playing with some cats. Autism is not a barrier in Girl Scouts. Just ask Molly.
