Boy Scouts to the Rescue on Mt. Shasta

Posted by admin under: community service .

HikerHell brings us another story of Boy Scouts in action. This time with good results.

A group of teenage Boy Scouts came to the rescue on Mount Shasta after coming across a woman who was injured and crawling down the mountain for the last two days.

On Tuesday, Teslenko saw a group of Boy Scouts. She stood up and waved her arms to get their attention. The group, from Maryland, came to Teslenko’s aid and called authorities. The scouts assisted her down the mountain and was met by a rescue team about 2 ½ miles from the Clear Creek trailhead. A 4-wheel drive ambulance drove up to pick up the injured woman.

Redding.com’s Jim Shultz has more details,

She banged herself pretty good on the rocks,” said Susan Gravenkamp, a spokeswoman for the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department.

Gravenkamp said that because of her injuries Teslenko, who had never before climbed Mt. Shasta, had difficulty walking while coming down the mountain and had to stop every now and then to lie down and rest.

The Boy Scout group later resumed their climb and is still on Mt. Shasta today, Gravenkamp said.

Well, what would you do if you flew all the way across the country, rescued a woman, and then had some time left over?
