Times Square in Charlottesville

I’m glad that Jennifer Black at charlottesvillenewsplex.tv related this off-the-wall-on-the-ball story. It sounds a little like, be careful what you wish for, you might be told to go ahead and do it.
Each year a group of boy scouts help First Night Virginia with the set-up preparations of New Years Eve. Last year, one of those boy scouts saw a void in the Charlottesville celebrations, realizing Charlottesville needed its very own ball drop.
…
“I brought that up to the person who was in charge last year, and she brought it up with the board. They emailed me a month later, saying can you make this for us, and we were like, okay I guess,” Noble said.
…
The 75 centimeter exercise ball is covered with more than 300 recycled CD’s along with gems to help catch the light.
…
“It’s dropping from the crane at the Landmark Hotel, we’re gonna take that crane and drop it form all the way up there,” said Noble.
Noble will watch as his ball descends the Landmark Hotel, a task admits makes him a little nervous.
“That’s a little nerve racking, being that I have never really done something like that before,” said Noble.
Nervousness will turn to excitement though, as thousands who will gather at the central place on the Downtown Mall to count down to 2009.
Now I’ve got visions of New Year’s Eve in my head for my Cub Scouts when they are old enough to earn the Engineer Activity Pin. For my first son we set up pulleys and had the guys lift each other off the ground. Let’s drop stuff this time!
- Girl Scout Party
- Kentucky’s Georgia
- No Electronics in Boy Scouts!
- Wax and Wood Firestarters for $12… LOL
- Cory is scared of little girls
