Digging GSGLA’s New Digs
Posted by admin under: council news .
As it happens the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles are moving their San Fernando Valley (North Region) office about a block away from where I work. They are moving to an area known as “The Warner Center”. Not the fancy, schmancy high-rise part, but still in the swanky part of town. This area is arguably the cream of the crop when it comes to office space in the valley. Considering the fact that when our valley was mounting a secession fight from the city of Los Angeles we were told we would become the 6th largest city in the nation I would say that being the swanky part of that town is not too shabby.
This would kind of fit with the discussion I had a year and a half ago with the fundraising chair for the newly merged GSGLA. They’re going after the big fish. Being able to project your image as contemporary and able to handle that sort of attention is just where this new office fits in. Black glass walls, brand-new interior, upscale part of town all say that this council knows how to handle its money. I’ll miss the old building that looks like a converted warehouse, but maybe they’ll actually use it as a warehouse for cookie season. I guess not since I saw the big For Lease sign on the front.
The GSGLA is moving at the end of next month. It will be convenient to pop by after work or during lunch to grab supplies. So, without further ado: your peek at the future of the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles.

I hope they did sell sell any of their camps like they are doing in Northeast Ohio and other staes. This office looks lovely but it cannot replace a camp! The girls don’t care about the office. Either do the volunteers-we do not sell cookies for fancy offices but we will sell cookies to keep our camps maintained.

Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles (GSGLA) has not sold any camps and part of the reason for our move is that we are saving money. For more information, read on. . .
GSGLA is excited to be opening the Woodland Hills Service Center on June 30th. This space will enable the council to better serve volunteers and families with improved parking, training facilities and meeting space, retail shop for Girl Scout supplies, easy access, and greater visibility. The best news of all, though, is that in this down cycle in commercial real estate, Girl Scouts was able to negotiate and lock in this new space at a greatly reduced rate and is spending less on this facility. In addition, we also received numerous concessions, including a complete space plan and construction paid for by the landlord along with a moving allowance that covers the entire cost of moving, furnishings and equipment to ensure that Girl Scouts is not out of pocket one dime in this move.
We could not agree more that camping is important for girls! GSGLA is excited to be making capital improvements to Camp Osito Rancho in Big Bear in preparation for our first summer of resident camp programs since the merger (visit http://www.girlscoutsla.org for camp information)! In addition, we are embarking on a master planning process for future upgrades at Camp Lakota in Frazier Park. GSGLA is mindful of how its resources are spent and works hard to ensure funds are focused on programs for girls. When we see an opportunity to trade up on our space and cut costs at the same time, it’s a win/win. We hope our volunteers and supporters agree and look forward to greeting them in the new Woodland Hills Service Center.
