Brett Backpacking with Bears
Posted by admin under: Equipment .
I’m adding a new site to my blogroll, http://www.brettonstuff.com/, because Brett keeps a pretty comprehensive list of gear review. He’s another one of the ultralight backpackers who like to debate between bringing something that weighs 4 ounces or 2 ounces. That’s pretty extreme to me, but then again I don’t do backpacking really. Well, until we hit Mount Whitney next summer. Reminds me to get in shape.
Anyway, he’s got a post on how to hang your gear in bear country which links to a magazine article on the PCT method of hanging your gear. I’ve never heard of it before and it’s basically using a carbiner to put a stop point on your rope so that it won’t hang lower than a certain height. I can’t explain it well here. Go over to his site to check it out. Check out his other posts, too. He’s got ideas for recharging GPS’s in the field and which ones are best (lightest).
