CamelBak Agua Vest

Junkie is at the Winter Outdoor Recreation convention or show or whatever. He’s been posting some interesting things, but I had to stop when I saw this item. Does this seem like a bad idea to anybody else?
The Unfrozen CamelBak Reservoir
CamelBak was offering test drives of its new ShredBak integrated hydration vest at OR, a water-resistant vest designed as a mid-layer with an integrated 72 oz. CamelBak Reservoir. Made for winter sports, the ShredBak is a softshell vest that may be worn as a mid-layer on cold days, or as an outer layer when it’s warmer. The idea is that the ShredBak integrates the athlete’s core body temperature into the hydration system, helping prevent water from freezing. The vest’s inner compression layer holds the reservoir close to the body for a low-profile fit that’s comfortable, even on the chairlift, according to CamelBak. An insulated tube cover further prevents freezing between the reservoir and bite valve. (Available in fall 2009, $250, www.camelbak.com)
Okay, let’s put aside that it’s a water bottle for 250 freakin’ dollars although that could warrant a long discussion on the “A Scout is Thrifty” topic. Wearing a layer of water under your coat while careening down mountains? “Hey, what’s the matter?” “Oh, nothing. My vest sprang a leak and now I’m dying of hypothermia”.
Really, I don’t think this thing seems like a very good idea at all. On the other hand Gear Junkie has been posting other items that are good ideas. Click over to see.
