Cold Weather Blogging
Posted by admin under: Equipment .
The Camping Blogger has a great post on camping in cold weather and the simple things to do to stay warm and happy. He provides a recap at the end I’ll quote here, but to get the real good stuff you’ll need to click on over and read his entire article. As always, he’s reminding people to sign up on his list for a chance to win a GPS.
Winter camping is an enjoyable family activity that does not require a bunch of new, expensive, gear. Next time, I’ll talk more about winter camping activities that your family can enjoy, but just to recap the first part in this series:
Your tent should have plenty of ventilation and a full rain fly
A sleeping bag liner can provide additional comfort
If you have a problem with cold feet at night, place a waterproof gear bag over the end of the sleeping bag
Layer clothing to control perspiration
Dry feet are warm feet, so change socks early and often
The only part I’ll add to his great list is mittens. Even when sleeping, to control heat loss since I can’t seem to keep my arms inside my sleeping bag, mittens provide the best heat trap for me. Mittens work better than gloves because all your fingers are partying together and providing one heat pool. If you’re clever you’ll find the kind where the top folds back to reveal fingerless gloves for precise work like tying knots.
