Different Dutch Ovens
Posted by admin under: Equipment .
Trying to recover from a long absence is easier when there are interesting stories to read out there like this one from Camping Blogger describing the differences between 3 Dutch oven styles. Plus, you can win one, too!
Dutch ovens are the original crockpots. Like a crockpot, you can throw just about anything in a dutch oven and it will come out tasting great.
Camp dutch ovens are easily distinguished by their stubby legs and flat lids with a raised flange around the edge.
A traditional dutch oven has a flat bottom with a domed basting lid.
The dutch oven that we selected (for you, too – we’re giving away two of these in April!) is a variation on the traditional theme. It has loop handles which make it easier to carry than a wire bail.
I’m partial to the camping style because I’ll use it in a fire pit or in an old pan to hold the coals so I get more cooking area. Still, I’m not averse to winning another. If you’re interested, too, you should click over to get the more in-depth description of the different Dutch ovens and try to win your own.
