Don’t Waste Fuel
Posted by admin under: Equipment .
Jerry has his backpacking tip of the week over at the Scoutmaster Minute. This time he’s discussing how to properly use backpacking stove fuel to minimize loss. I have to get an old sock, like he said.
2. Keep your fuel as warm as you can. Store your fuel in an old sock while it’s in your pack.
At night keep your canisters or fuel bottles in your tent. Canister fuel in a sock placed in your sleeping bag can be a life saver in the morning. Fuel gets cold and hard to burn. Keeping it warm insures quick lighting and more efficient burn.
Go check out his other tips and see the pic of his Jetboil stove. Cool. I reviewed that a while back and the dads in my troop swear by it although I’m still using my old-fashioned liquid fuel stove. Slower, but no parts to break.
