Dutch Oven Temperature Regulation
Posted by admin under: Equipment .
One of the resources on my list over to the right is “Byron’s Dutch Oven Cooking Page”. One of the most often asked questions… Let me rephrase that. One of the questions I most often forget the answer to and need to look up again and again is “How do I know the temperature of my Dutch oven?” It’s important because different foods require different temperatures and you don’t want to lift the lid too often and let all that good heat out. Or maybe you do. In any event, Byron has the answer in more ways than one.
To get the Dutch oven to 350 degrees, take the size of your Dutch oven (10″, 12″, et cetera) and double that number as the number of charcoal briquettes you use. 10″ requires 20, 12″ requires 24, and so on. Well, Bryon explains it a lot better. You’d better follow this link so he can tell you that and other tips: http://papadutch.home.comcast.net/dutch-oven-cooking-tips.htm#Temp
