Omelettes in a Bag
Posted by admin under: Recipes .
I’ve had this easy breakfast so many times I forget that there are others who haven’t. I get parents at outings all the time expressing surprise that this would work, but it does. Just remember to use freezer bags and follow the easy instructions in this video.
Yes, you can do it on a fire and with a bigger pot and lots of bags. There are a couple of things you should do, though. First, write on the bags with a permanent marker to remember which bag belongs to who. Newer freezer bags have a little write-on spot that makes this easy.
Second, you can put all kinds of things into your omelette: bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, ham, bacon, and anything else you want. However, don’t put cheese in when you cook the omelette. The melting cheese looks exactly like half-cooked raw egg so it becomes difficult to tell if your omelette is ready to eat or not. You don’t want to find out when you have a mouthful of raw egg. That’s yucky and dangerous in a bacterial way. Instead, take your omelette out and put the cheese in afterwards. The egg is so hot it will melt your cheese for a tasty omelette.
Also, this guy put his omelette on a plate. How silly. Just eat it out of the bag and you have no dishes to wash except a fork.
Here’s a cooking tip. The omelette can appear ready, but still have some raw egg on the inside. If you’re not worried about the artistic look of your eggs, just pull the bag out of the water, cool it for a few seconds, and then squish the egg in the bag. If raw egg oozes out of the cooked egg inside the bag then you need some more time. If not, add your pepper and cheese and have breakfast!
