Hiya, Smoky!
Posted by admin under: community service; fundraising .
I’m a little slow so I just noticed a blog listing us on her site so I went and checked her out. Inspiring, uplifting, and challenging, Smoky is making a point to raise money for her local Girl Scouts in order to expose the next generation of women to the beautiful natural resources we have available today so that they become good stewards of it in the future.
I’m hiking all the trails in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in one year as a personal challenge and to raise funds for outdoor programs for Girl Scouts in North Carolina. There are over 800 miles of trails and I will walk over 1,000 miles to cover them all!
Kids need to get outdoors for physical and mental health, recreational and environmental awareness reasons. Donations to this challenge can help to fund camp scholarships, backpacking equipment, even a hike group for inner-city girls. The needs are great and the benefits are even greater.
My goal is to raise $20,000 or $20 per mile. I will walk 1,000 miles for a girl - how far will you go?
So, what are you waiting for? Go check out her site. If you’re anywhere near her mountain trails, you just might run into her.

Thanks so much for the mention. I am taking an older girl troop out on a little bit of the Appalachian Trail going through the Smokies in late September so be sure to check in. Of course it takes me a little longer to get the write-ups done than you. I can’t believe how prolific you are! I enjoy your site immensely and have passed it on to my district members.

Thank you for everything! My write-ups are easy because there is no trail work involved. I rely on real hikers like you to give me material to share out to everyone else. I tried a hill at summer camp and couldn’t make it. We’re going to try Mt. Whitney next May and boy do I have a lot of work to do to get in shape for that. Whew! We’ll have an electronic cup of coffee after our adventures and tell war stories by the warm glow of the monitor. Good luck! I’ll be reading!
