Local Tragedy
Posted by admin under: fundraising .
One of the dads in my troop used to be a member of another troop that has just experienced a tragedy. The Modesto Bee has the most complete information I’ve found.
Police say they’re searching for an 18-year-old gang member who fatally shot a 16-year-old high school student who was walking a girl home over the weekend in Los Angeles.
Lt. Alan Hamilton says David Aranda Hernandez shot Edward Satterstrom multiple times Saturday night after a short verbal exchange in the North Hollywood area. The girl ran away unharmed.
The shooting occurred near John Francis Polytechnic High, where Satterstrom went to school and was trying out for the football team.
City Councilman Tony Cardenas says he knew the victim and he was “a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout… not a gang member.”
Authorities say Hernandez is a member of a Pacoima-area gang and apparently did not know Satterstrom.
Eddie had moved on from Scouting, but his mom is still involved. An event is scheduled to help the family.
Pack 94 and Troop 94, in conjunction with Poly High School, will be conducting a car wash to raise money for Eddie’s funeral. The car wash will take place at Brewline Coffee Shop, 1240 Truman Street, San Fernando on Saturday, August 9th from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. All proceeds will be donated to the Satterstrom family. If you cannot make it, any donation you make will be greatly appreciated. Donations should be sent to:

I’m sure prayers are welcome, too.
Update: Extensive interview with Eddie’s mom by Diana Martinez in the San Fernando Valley Sun.
