Michigan Gets New Heart and Head
Posted by admin under: Girl Scout Reorganization .
Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan has named Janet Barker, former CEO of Girl Scouts of the Glowing Embers Council, Kalamazoo, as the chief executive officer of the newly realigned organization, which combines five Girl Scouts Councils into one, high-capacity council.
Barker was selected following a national search. She began her new position on July 1, in preparation for Tuesday’s launch of the Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan, serving 30,000 girls and adult volunteers in 33 Michigan counties.
…
“This is an exciting time for Girl Scouts,” said Gail Scott, CEO of Girl Scouts of the Huron Valley Council. “With a new, larger council to serve them and new programming from Girl Scouts of the USA, our girls have so many more opportunities to explore, while still upholding the values of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.”
“By consolidating councils, we will be able to be fully staffed and to do the work of a strong, forward-thinking council,” said Kerry Allen, CEO of Girl Scouts of Mitten Bay Council. “We hope to build membership by serving girls more effectively. We will focus on national destination offerings that give older girls a chance for travel and adventure.”
Wow that’s a whole lotta chiefs, but not as many as before. Congrats to Janet Barker becoming the head of the Heart of Michigan. Sounds a little Frankenstein when you say it like that, but we wish her the best anyway.
