New Mass. CEO Pushes Girl Scout Message

Good energy from the new CEO of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts. Maria Papadopoulos reports on a great interview with her for the Patriot Ledger.
The Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts is reaching out to girls from all backgrounds and communities to join the venerable organization, its new leader says.
“We really want to make it possible for every girl who wants to be a Girl Scout to be a Girl Scout. There should be no barriers economically, ethnically, even from the point of view of what their first language is. Everything we’re doing is geared to that particular philosophy,” Ruth N. Bramson, the new chief executive officer of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts, said in a meeting with The Enterprise editorial board last week.
Bramson said that in February as part of a national realignment, the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts was formed. It now includes Girl Scouts in 178 towns and cities in Massachusetts and Pelham, N.H.
Ms. Bramson goes on to detail how the merger gives them more resources which is what I took as the main thrust of this change. Then she said
“The Girls Scouts of USA just completed a wonderful research study that shows that girls want to be leaders, but they don’t want to be the kind of leaders that equate leadership with power. They want to be the kind of leaders who are collaborative, who help to make a difference in the world and who are impacting their communities. And this is true at every age for these girls.”
Hrm. I have my own view on the results of that survey. Still, you want your CEO to be someone who has a strong message and is going to accomplish her goals. So, good luck to Ruth Bramson. Just don’t close any camps. M’Kay?
