Possible Increase In Girl Scouts Membership Fee
Posted by admin under: Girl Scout Reorganization; policies .
I just received an update from our local delegation for the GSUSA regional convention sending our delegates to national. They approved a proposal to increase the annual memership fee from $10 to $12 to start in 2010. The reason given is that the things cost more and there is less money available because of a possible recession so we should charge the participants more. Sorry, that’s my politics showing again. The proposal seem likely to pass so troops should begin thinking along the lines of the increase affecting them.
With the merger of many councils, representation for national delegations is becoming an issue. Hopefully, the issue will be resolved with fair representation for everyone in the country. Another interesting development is giving all Girl Scouts 14 and older a vote on national matters turning the GSUSA into something more along the lines of a Roman democracy. We’ll see if that idea passes and if so if that’s a good one.
