Rattlesnake Survivability
Posted by admin under: hiking; safety .
Hiker Hell has a story of a man who was bit by a rattlesnake. So, how did he survive?
A biologist hiking through national forest land above the Inland Empire was suddenly bitten by a snake. It is unclear how far from the trailhead he was when he was bitten.
The snake was able to inject the man with venom. The man immediately knew he was injected with venom when his mouth started drying and a tingling sensation covered his body. He was able to get to his car when the venom caused pain throughout his body. He was also losing his motor skills.
He still was able to drive his car down the hill when he luckily came across some sheriffs who were tending to a fatal accident. The sheriffs called a chopper who airlifted the man to a hospital. Authorities said the man was bitten by a three-foot Southern Pacific rattlesnake. The man is currently in serious condition at the hospital.
I think its helpful to know what you can do even if you’ve been bitten. In this guy’s case, it was a lot.
