Barack Obama Was a Boy Scout

That’s what one of his former classmates in Indonesia told the Sydney Morning Herald.
Rully Dasaad, a photographer, formed an Obama fan club and almost all his 24 classmates joined, dismissing suggestions Obama was educated as a Muslim.

Coming from one of Indonesia’s wealthiest families and with an American aunt, Dasaad spoke good English and took “chubby Barry” under his wing. They joined the Scouts together and every lunchtime would play tak gebok, an Indonesian version of dodgeball.
Did this guy actually know our Presidential contender? How long was Obama in? I sent a query to the Obama website, but I’m thinking they might be too busy to get back to me. There’s some sort of special event coming up next month that has them all in a lather.

Obama should have been a Boy Scout. I watch news broadcast on CBS Evening News (05/06/09) and notice the American Flag was displayed to the left of the president and the other countries flag was to his right. Exactly when did the regulations change? The American flag has always been to the speaker’s right – as (s)he faces the audience from a stage or podium.

Jack, in checking the video from CBS (I assume you saw the video on the Afghanistan and Pakistan leaders meeting), there are actually 2 groups of flag on each side of the door. Each group has the American, Afghanistan and Pakistan Flag. When the video goes close up, you only see the American Flag on his left but there is also one on his right.
I should probably mention that in each group, the American Flag is on the speaker’s right. I would have to check US Flag Code and/or my old scout handbook on International Flag custom but it seems consistent, as long as they are all the same height and size.

I agree that Mr. Obama should have been a Boy Scout. He would have learned strong leadership and logical decision making skills and would have also learned about taking pride in being a true American and perhaps he would not have gone across the continents apologizing on behalf of Americans for being American.

So you’re in the habit of not apologizing to people when you cut them off in the supermarket aisle, on purpose or inadvertently? You’re in the habit of not apologizing when something you’ve said or done hurts someone else, either physically or emotionally?
You sound like a rather callous and cold individual – not at all what one expects from someone who holds the Scout Law and Oath in their heart.

President Obama was a Boy Scout. He writes about it in his first book “Dreams from my Father”
