Iraq’s Pinewood Derby
Posted by admin under: International .
Remember that story back in July where we talked about Lieutenant Greg Hembree trying to get pinewood derby cars for Iraqi Scouts? Scoutingnews.org says that the effort was successful!
After seeing the opportunity to organize a Pinewood Derby, Lt. Hembree reached out to not only Pack 236 but to Scouts across central Indiana and asked for a donation of 1,000 Pinewood Derby cars, along with other much needed Scouting supplies. Local Scouts answered the challenge, collecting the 1,000 cars in only a few weeks.
Click here to see cars from the Green Zone Council’s pinewood derby back in May. What a great tradition to share with Scouts in Iraq. The innovator of the pinewood derby, Don Murphy, passed away just this year, but not until his invention was shared with our brothers and sisters in Iraq. Thanks to Lieutenant Hembree for ensuring this great tradition continues!
