Saudi Scouts Say No To Smoking
Posted by admin under: International .
Boy scouts play a major role in helping pilgrims in Makkah during Ramadan and the Haj. They offer support to security and medical services besides helping charity organizations in supplying food to the pilgrims.
Nabil Taib, supervisor of Scouting Activities at the Education Department in the province, who is also the commander of the Ramadan Scouts Program, told Arab News yesterday that the scouts do a commendable service to pilgrims, particularly the sick and illiterate ones.
According to http://www.islamnewsroom.com/content/view/268/26/ the Islamic holy month of Ramadan is wrapping up in the next week or so. There’s a lot of stuff you’re not supposed to do during Ramadan if you’re Muslim and smoking is on that list.
I like seeing how Scouts operate in other countries and especially the Middle East since my wife’s family has a connection to that part of the world and also because we’re learning more about the differences in culture with our military presence in Iraq and Afghanistan. I’m not a fan of the policies of the Saudi Arabian government, but I’m happy to see Boy Scouts performing acts of public service anywhere in the world.
