UK Scout Leader Climbing Accident
Posted by admin under: International .
Hiker Hell relates a story from the British paper Telegraph.
A 21-year-old Scout leader died after falling 1,000 feet off a cliff during a hike near Mittagsspitz(e) mountain [in Liechtenstein].
Tom Moore was on a trip with 50 scouts in the area. A day before the trip was to end, Moore decided to hike up Mittagsspitz by himself. He took a rucksack, money and a passport.
When he didn’t return, he was reported missing and a search began. It took three days to find the man’s body at the bottom of a ravine on the mountain. It is unclear how the man fell, but authorities believe he somehow slipped on the trail.
I’ve never been a big fan of “even adults have to use the buddy system”, but I guess I’ll have to take that rule more seriously given this story.
