USA-Baghdad Cultural Exchange

Posted by admin under: International .

This sounds cool. There will be a teleconference to let American Boy Scouts and Iraqi Scouts talk to each other. Those stinkers at the Victory Base Council don’t have anything posted on this, but News Blaze has the story.

Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers will host a Boy Scout cultural exchange between the Iraqi Victory Base Council scouts and Boy Scouts from the Long Horn Council in Temple, Texas, and Webelos Scouts from the Georgia-Carolina Council in Augusta, Ga., via video teleconference on Camp Liberty from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 10.

After introductions, the scouts will then ask each other questions about scouting in their areas, what they do in scouts, what they like or anything they are curious about. The Iraqi scouts will also get to enjoy some pizza, popcorn, and the opportunity to make s’mores over an open fire.

The event is being held to strengthen Iraqi-American relations, share information on the different cultures, give the children of both America and Iraq the opportunity to see how similar they are to one another, and help foster the ideas of scouting in all three areas.

The Iraq-American Boy Scout VTC is open to the media. Please RSVP no later than 2 p.m., Jan. 9. For more information on how to attend this event, contact Maj. Mark Cheadle, deputy public affairs officer, MND-B at mark.cheadle@mnd-b.army.mil, Iraqna 0790-192-4073 and Sgt. Shana Henline, shana.henline@mnd-b.army.mil, Iraqna: 0790-192-4674.

I sent an e-mail, but I don’t know if I have to be in Texas, Georgia, or Baghdad to listen in. Hopefully someone will be covering this.

Update: Major Cheadle said the notice was intended for embedded reporters in Iraq and no online eavesdropping by interested Scouters is provided for. However, you could probably get to watch if you contacted one of the councils and asked nicely. I should be getting a pointer at a follow-up story after the event.
