Victory Base Makes The News

Posted by admin under: International .

Michael P. Tremoglie from The Bulletin in Philadelphia interviews the volunteers from Iraq’s Victory Base Council. They’re doing a great job over there and have recently been updating their website. Obviously, they’ve got some momentum going for them.

Lt. Cmdr. Fretz and other passionate service members decided to start their own Victory Base Council, which brings military personnel together with schoolchildren from areas in southern Baghdad. The group began with just a few volunteers.

Now, there are nearly 200 members strong with more than 120 volunteers from Victory Base Complex. The council members are also working with scouting adults, so they may continue the project once coalition forces withdraw from the country.

Chris Tomlin, senior development director for the Cradle of Liberty Council of the Philadelphia Boy Scouts of America, said this is a terrific idea.

“If we’re going over there and incorporating the scouting values of being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, cheerful and the other 12 points and sounds like we are, then I’m all for it,” he said.

And don’t forget the new Iraq Scouting Service Square Knot for helping out the Scouts in Iraq.
