Volvo Aqua Scouts

The World Organization of the Scouting Movement says that Volvo sponsored an event in South Africa for Scouts where they got to play with boats.
On 8 November 2008 more than 600 young Scouts spent the day at the Volvo Ocean Race Village at the Waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa, on invitation by Volvo. Thanks to this activity, the Scouts not only got to enjoy the world’s most exciting sailing event, but also got to learn more about how to protect the environment.
The Scouts had an opportunity to learn about Volvo’s contribution to reducing the CO2 emissions. They also participated in a number of environmental activities that are part of World Scout Environmental Programme, such as a Solar Cooker and understanding our Carbon Footprint.
The South African Scout Association is committed to contributing to protecting the environment and has developed a Climate Change Programme with the assistance of Scouts Canada and the Delphi Corporation.

Oh, I love those solar cookers. Especially in parts of the world where finding adequate fuel for cooking costs too much precious time. I’ve still got a pane of glass set aside to build my own solar cooker. I tried one before with Plexiglas and cardboard. It was okay, but I never really finished it. It’s cool that a big company opened its doors to the Scouts. I hope they had fun figuring out what a carbon footprint is. I thought it was when you got ashes on the bottom of your boot, but I could be wrong.
