I don’t think the BSA is overlooking the Pacific Northwest. I think they are trying to stay near Washington DC because so many of the scout groups go on tours of the Capital. For many people, this might be their only chance to tour the Capital. But if it come down to having a Jamboree or not, then go where there is land!

How about the Northwest part of the US we have vast expanses of land and several underutilized scout camps. I wish professional scouters would use common sense.

I’m hearing more than rumors (Sep 09) that the West Virgina location is out of the running as well for the BSA National Jamboree site…

Ft Leonard Wood in MO is about as close as you can get to the population center of the US. Maybe that should be the focus of attention.

the evacuation point is a very good point. i worked at gsr and the Goshen pass (the only way to Lexington) is one of the more treacherous roads ive driven.

I would have to say that they this town should make the call now, so that the BSA can make adjustments to the Jambo. In my opinion, The scouts may be better off to scout for a new area to have the Jambo, and let this town lose out on all of the potential income this event will generate.

I would say that here in Wisconsin, we would love to have them, and also, with practicing LNT, I think that the impact on the environment would be less than what they are thinking…

Even without the drama that is occuring over the new site, I think a 2013 Jambo at a new location is very ambitious. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
