Instant ScoutBase!

Posted by admin under: Outings .

I don’t know how this kind of stuff sneaks up on me. How about 15,000 Boy Scouts and Scouters appearing out of nowhere this weekend? They’ll be showing up at ScoutBase 2008 billed as “the largest council sponsored scouting event in America”. Well, that really does sound extremely big! Good thing myeyewitnessnews.com put up a story or I never would have known!

Scouts ranging from ages 6 to 18 will takeover the Paul Battle Jr. Arena and Exposition Center from October 17th to the 19th. There will be more than 280 activities running simultaneously and most of the scouts will camp on the 320 acre grounds surrounding the arena! The event is produced by the Chickasaw Council Boy Scouts and managed and run by 750 volunteers from across the Mid-South. Non Scouts are invited on Saturday to join in on all the fun!

From the opening ceremony on Saturday, October 18 at 8:00 am to the end of ScoutBase, it’s guaranteed to be a weekend the whole family will enjoy.

  • A grand opening ceremony with a salute to the American Veterans
  • The Navy parachute team the Leap Frogs
  • The Rolling Thunder, 200 American vets on Harley motorcycles
  • A performance by the world renowned Kwahadi Indian Dancers
  • Supervised shooting range with BB guns, Archery and Shotguns
  • Fox Hunt Demonstration
  • Climbing Towers and a high wire Ropes Course
  • Plus much much more!

  • ScoutBase 2008 is proud to welcome the United States Armed Forces to this year’s event. Kids will have access to hands on activities such as flight simulators and interactive military displays. They will also be able to explore military aircraft and an assortment of other vehicles;

  • Virtual Army Experience with 3 interactive Humvees and displays
  • 25 foot Harbor Patrol craft
  • Mississippi National Guard Blackhawk Helicopter
  • National Guard Flight Simulators
  • An authentic U.S. Army Humvee outfitted with a virtual Army experience
  • “There is not a Scouting event of this quality and size outside of the National Jamboree, and it’s all produced locally. Everyone should be proud of this initiative that will enhance the entire Mid-South community,” David Pickler said.

Wowee! I’ll say! And it’s open to the public as well as Scouts from 6 on up. Well, I’ve got a stick and I’d say you can’t even beat this event with it.
