The BSA of China
Posted by admin under: policies .
I’ve always supported free trade and I believe that the jobs that people do overseas in order to sell us goods ultimately benefit our security by pulling us into a relationship that makes other countries at least somewhat dependent on our trade. I also think that laborers who provide these services are receiving a better standard of living than if they did not have these jobs available even though none of us could afford to work for the pittance they’re paid. However, I can definitely see the other side of the argument and it’s easy to see why the following idea bubbling through the BSA innovation engine is getting approved of by a 3 to 1 margin.
As millions of our countrymen lose their jobs to unfair labor practices overseas, it seems less than appropriate that our uniforms are made in China. If cost is an issue, maybe we could provide an American made product alongside the foreign product, and give everyone the option to “buy America”. It could even be used a a marketing tool.

I am glad to see other boy scout families concerned about the uniforms of Boy Scouts of America being made in China. Yes, American’s need the jobs. BSA should help to teach dignity and justice for all our brothers and sisters. As the saying goes, use less, share more. Regardless to who makes the uniforms, the Boy Scouts of America should uphold their Christian values and not take advantage of the working poor. The mentality of “any job is better than no job” holds very little water. No one on this planet should work full time and still not make enough money to feed, clothe, educate, provide shelter and address the medical needs of their family. Boy Scouts of America should become stewards of God’s creation.
