Palin’s Hacker Was No Boy Scout
Posted by admin under: politics .
In my searching I tripped upon an article first found in the UK Press Association, but repeated in many places describing the hacker of Vice-Presidential nominee Sarah Palin as the “quintessential Boy Scout”. Obviously this got me to wondering if David Kernell was a Boy Scout. He’s only 20. He might still be in Venturing.
After hearing about his history teacher discussing how Mr. Kernell did this same trick when he lived in Killeen, Texas I got the impression that David was into three things: chess, politics, and computer hacking. A more complete biography of the young man was available on a chess.com blog and it basically said that he was all about chess. So I sent e-mails off to the Longhorn Council and the big Killeen Boy Scout troop to ensure they haven’t heard about him (before this).
I feel pretty comfortable saying that it was an obvious use of a popular phrase to compare him to someone good like the Boy Scouts, but that he was no Boy Scout himself.
Update: The troop responded and said they hadn’t heard of him being enrolled and that the reference to Boy Scouts was simply a turn of phrase. I agree. I just wanted to be sure.
