Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan Names CCO
Posted by admin under: press release .
Yay! I’ve been locked out of my e-mail for over a week and only able to get some slender messages through via a block webmail or telephone access. Finally I can get to some of my older e-mails. Here’s one that’s very cool. Chris Siekierzynski sent me a notice that the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan has named a new CCO. What’s a CCO? Ah, Chief Communications Officer. Okay. Who is this guy?
The Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan, a group of four merged Girl Scouts councils, has named Suneil Singh Chief Communications Officer, effective August 10th.
Singh had been Development & Communications Director of Detroit nonprofit Franklin-Wright Settlements.
On Jan. 1st 2009, Girl Scouts of Metro Detroit, Girl Scouts of Macomb County-Otsikita, Fair Winds and Michigan Water Ways councils merged to create the new organization. The consolidated council serves over 40,000 girls in eight counties and operates on a budget of about $12 million. It is now one of three Michigan councils, down from 13 separate councils, as part of a national move by the Girl Scouts to strengthen its infrastructure and resources.
Singh was recruited in an effort to enhance the traditional Girl Scouts communications model with emerging web 2.0 technologies such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. “For far too long nonprofits have relied on outdated marketing techniques to promote their message,” Singh said. “Press releases can take you only so far. We need to start creating meaningful dialogues with the general public and show them in creative, entertaining ways why the Girl Scouts is so vital to a young woman’s development.”
Okay! Got it posted just in time. Good luck to Mr. Singh. I expec to hear good things from him. Get it? Because he’s a communications officer? I crack myself up.
