GSUSA: Team Meeting
Posted by admin under: program .
Mrs. Admin had another service unit team meeting last night at our house. Last month I attended out of curiosity, but felt like an 11th wheel because I really wasn’t needed for anything. The basic lowdown is that we’ve had a number of troops disbanding in our service unit and we want to try to recover as many of the girls from those units as possible. Troops disband for any number of reasons, not all of which have anything to do with personality conflicts or lack of interest.
My wife is also justifiably proud of the fact that she’s gotten all her team positions filled. Anyone who has tried to get district-level volunteers knows that it’s exponentially more difficult than getting your troop parents to volunteer. Fortunately, she’s good at spotting talent and knows when it’s time to tap people for higher office, as it were.
One of the items she’s tackling is getting permission slips turned in. BSA has tour permits. GSUSA has permission slips. They need to be on file just in case something happens. It’s a paperwork thing. Our troop leaders have been getting lax about turning them in and Mrs. Admin is determined to turn that around. It’s also an indicator of whether or not troops are providing outings for their girls. No permission slips means no outings. That means the girls are only getting troop meetings which doesn’t bring them the full Girl Scout experience and usually results in complaints and drop-outs. So, permission slips serve multiple purposes.
I forget what the next leaders’ meeting theme is, but she’s also somewhat modeling her service unit meetings after Cub Roundtables. Give the leaders a packet of information that relates to a theme or upcoming event that most are involved with and then have demonstrations and discussions on that theme. As the leaders find the monthly meetings more useful attendance should increase as well as program opportunities that the leaders learn about from each other.
Good meeting. Good times. Good Girl Scouts.
