BSA: Camporee Finale
Posted by admin under: recognition .
So, did the Camporee Preparation work? You bet. Our troop has now won the spirit stick five of the last six years with my son’s patrol garnering this honor for our unit. Each of the patrol’s brought ribbons home to decorate their patrol flags. We won second and third place overall, but were beaten out of number 1 by the worthy Buffalo patrol. I was personally gratified by 3 of the 4 patrols taking home ribbons for knots and two of them were first place ribbons.
Our camporee was held on the largest privately owned property in California, the Tejon Ranch. Plans are to have it there again next year for the centennial when we hope to get all of the districts together for a combined camporee. I don’t think that’s going to happen beause the other districts are generally much stronger than ours and have a commensurate amount of pride in their camporees.
One of the principal organizers is Nathan Wolfstein keeps lining up sponsors including a group he started for the parents of Eagle Scouts: http://www.eaglescoutparentsesp.com/pages/ESP_Program.shtml where he tries to raise money selling first aid kits and survivial kits so I thought I’d give him a shout out.
Three members of our Venture Crew showed up and were promptly impressed into staff service. They got free food and staff shirts so they were big winners.
I’m just so happy everyone was able to bring something home, but I’m also proud they were able to do so well. Congrats, boys!
