BSA Eagle Count Nears 2 Million

Since I was playing around with Twitter I checked on the official Twitter account of the Boy Scouts of America which is @BoyScouts, natch, and saw this message posted.
BSA is close to awarding its 2 Millionth Eagle! I’ve heard the name will be announced in May.
Wow! 2 Million! Of course that begs the question: Who was the 1 millionth? The New York Times has an archived story about that.

Alexander M. Holsinger became the nation’s one-millionth Eagle Scout today and received a congratulatory telephone call from President Reagan. The 13-year-old student at Chiddix Junior High School said he was ”thrilled” by his talk with the President.
I wonder if the 2nd millionaire will get to talk to the President, too? And how about getting 1 million Eagle Scouts after the first 72 years and then only taking 27 years to get one million more. Who says the program is slowing down?
Hm. I wonder what Alexander M. Holsinger is up to now? Googling… Chances look good that he’s now a professor of criminal justice at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Well, I guess he just went ahead and kept advancing after earning his Eagle rank at the tender age of 13. Good for him. I wonder who the next one will be?

Hey Alex, my husband & I are cub scout leaders in Tolono, IL. Not too far from where you grew up and as I was researching the history of scouting for our upcoming blue and gold banquet I ran across your name as being the 1 millionth eagle scout awarded.
