GSUSA: 500+ Event
Posted by admin under: recognition .
My daughter sold more boxes of Girl Scout cookies than ever before this year. Maybe dad being out of work and able to booth in front of stores helped. A little. The Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles has always rewarded top sellers by giving them a party. This year they got the girls into the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana, California after hours and they had the run of the building without anyone else. The event was catered and the girls had a slumber party theme so they were variously dressed in pajamas. I think a hands-on science center is awesome and my daughter was similarly entranced. There were 2 girls from our troop at this event and another girl from our little sister troop. They had a great time. Hurricane booth, earthquake room, rock wall, 3D dinosaur movie, giant smoke ring maker, tornado mist, life-sized Zamboni, Dance Dance Revolution, RockBand, and more attractions made this a full night of fun. One of my past criticisms of my council’s events of this nature is that they were not presenting awards to the girls who worked so hard for them. I put more importance on the individual recognition than a mass event of fun. With our newly merged council having hundreds of girls being rewarded this was a little too time consuming so they had a constant slide show of girls’ names and their sale counts so they could receive a sort of individual recognition. All in all, I think this was as good an event as could be done given the wide geographic area and number of girls to be hosted. I give it 5 out of 5 stars. Thanks GSGLA!

Sounds like it was a great event for the 500+ girls. Our council (GSSGC) is doing a day at a local fun park with mini golf, water slides, lunch and go-carts. I’ll be sure to pass along the info about recognizing the individual girls at the event to our Product Sales Team. I agree that it’s importance for the girls to feel and know their efforts are appreciated…and that they did a great job!
