Jostens Enters Eagle Ring Battle

Posted by admin under: recognition .

I recently discussed the new Eagle Honor ring designed by an Eagle Scout and his dad. It looks like the venerable high school class ring company Jostens isn’t taking this new competition lightly as they’ve issued a press release regarding their own Eagle Scout ring. They then double down with the news about Woodbadge rings.

Jostens will now help Eagle Scouts® celebrate and recognize their significant achievement with customized and personalized rings under license from the Boy Scouts of America®. Eagle Scout is the highest rank that can be achieved as a Boy Scout and only 5% of all Scouts have attained the award since its inception in 1912. The Eagle Scout ring features a Red, White and Blue top with the Eagle Scout® Boy Scouts of America® logo. The ring sides feature the universal Eagle emblem and is personalized with the Eagle Scout’s name and year the award was achieved.

The Boy Scouts of America has also licensed Jostens to produce Wood Badge® rings to recognize adult volunteers that have completed the Boy Scouts of America Wood Badge advanced leadership training. The Wood Badge® signet ring displays the Wood Badge shield on the ring top, the universal symbol on one side and one of eight mascots on the other side.

Sales price? $185-$190. David, Goliath has entered the battle field.

I think the boy scouts and girl scouts should allow other compaines who do rings besides Jostens to be licenced to use thier logo as well. Having competition in the marketplace only gives more varity and better value for all.

I was noticing quite a few google adsense ads for the Jostens ring. I’m a bigger fan of the simpler design of the Honor Ring…

You’re right, Missy. And in this post, http://www.boyandgirlscouts.com/equipment/new-stuff-for-boy-scouts/, I talked about how other companies could do that. Basically, the BSA has to review a company for their ability to handle demand and proper business practices as well as paying a license fee and royalties. BSA doesn’t want people to start buying something only to have the business not deliver, according to the BSA licensing statements.

At least the Boys Scouts get an Eagle ring for their hard work. I have both a son who’s a Boy Scout and a daughter who’s a Girl Scout and earned her Gold Award. Unfortunately, We have NOT been able to find anyone who makes a Girl Scout Gold Award ring. I know they made them a few years ago but I can’t find them now. Can anyone help?

Hi, Carmen. Here’s a link to the Girl Scout online store with a Gold Award ring. Says it’s $150 marked down from $625.50. Wow. That’s quite a mark-down.

Admin — competition is GOOD!!…….rocks and slingshots are cheap…..
BTW due to a technological manufacturing breakthrough, my sterling silver ring is now $175.00.
Missy & Carmen — happy to work with ideas regarding a new gold award ring design for Girl Scouts. It takes time for design, manufacturing processes, and licensing. The Eagle Honor Ring took over a year from design to finished licensed product. Would love to work with y’all on it.

LOL. How slow I am. I just realized you posted your comment with the name “David” even though it’s the good folks over at the Eagle Honor Ring company. Hmmm. I feel a post in the works regarding your updated price.
